Priority Access to UCSF's Vast Internal Resources
The Bakar Aging Research Institute (BARI) aims to transform the current landscape of aging research at UCSF by eliminating major obstacles that obstruct development of molecular, cellular and organismal-based research strategies.
Core resources are essential for achieving our goal to address the most important problems related to how and why we age, including characterizing how molecular and cellular changes over time contribute to age-onset diseases. We encourage the utilization of existing CoLabs supported by UCSF, to which BARI members have priority access.
Aging Mouse Colony
To provide the opportunity for members that may not have been funded by the NIA previously, BARI supplies aged mice every quarter of the year to those who wish to perform pilot studies.
Naked Mole Rat Colony
In addition to our aging mouse colony, we have established three naked mole rat colonies which is a total of 45 animals. We are excited by the prospect of what interesting information can be gained by studying this fascinating, long-lived mammal.
At this time, we welcome suggestions for cores and for junior CoLabs that will facilitate projects related to our goals. Please fill out our survey to help us understand what would transform your research.
