BARI Membership Benefits

Join the community of UCSF trainees, clinicians, and scientists who are leading the effort to decode the biology of aging, develop cutting-edge approaches to understand the aging process, treat diseases of aging, and support older adults in leading a healthy, vibrant life. Membership Eligibility Requirements

  • A full-time ladder rank faculty, or equivalent, appointment at UCSF
  • Actively engaged in, or have a new interest in, aging research as evidenced by:
    • an active publication or grant record in the field
    • current institutional study (or within the last year) 
  • A two-thirds vote of approval by the BARI Executive Committee
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion: In alignment with our values to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the BARI, all eligible members (currently faculty and staff) are required to complete the UCSF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Training. Failure to complete this training will result in withdrawal of BARI membership. Click here to view a schedule of trainings.

Membership Responsibilities

The BARI Executive Committee performs a membership review every 2 years, at which time inactive members will be retired from the program. Retired members may be invited to re-apply for membership as their schedule and interest allows. To maintain the privileges of membership for the next year, at minimum, each member must fill out, before a single set deadline, an annual survey of information. This is intended to limit the number of these request per year and provide a consistently updated set of data for all BARI functions.

  • Members are required to present a during a BARI monthly meeting
  • Regularly participate in BARI events (monthly meeting, social hour, faculty retreat, symposium, etc.)
  • Members in good-standing (active participation) must complete a yearly survey to collect information useful in enhancing our institute

Membership Application - Currently Closed

UCSF clinicians and scientists with a full-time appointment can apply for BARI membership by filling out the application. Potential members may also be contacted upon recommendation from the BARI Executive Committee and asked to complete the application. Applications are reviewed by the Committee.

  • NIH-format biosketch
  • NIH other support documents
