BARI Transgenic Mouse Aging Support Awards

Overall Goal: To provide support for the aging of transgenic mouse strains, as well as banking and distribution of tissues. The strains of mice included in the proposal should be relevant to the overarching goal of advancing the field of aging and of interest to the greater BARI community. This award will fund a PI to age a mouse strain for up to 2 years and share the mouse tissue with a group of other BARI members. Consultations for the management of an aging mouse colony will be available to awardees if needed.

Who is Eligible: Any BARI member  

Deadline: January 19th, 2024

Funding: Up to 2 years for LARC housing and husbandry costs. Funds for this award will be separated into equally distributed payments over the two-year period (not as one lump sum).

How to Apply: 

  • Statement describing the transgenic mouse strain and relevant publications (max. 1 page)
  • Current biosketch for each Co-PI, who will utilize tissue from this strain
  • Estimated Budget for Year 1

BARI Collaborative Projects Awards (Coming Soon!)

Overall Goal: To promote synergistic, cooperative science to accomplish research goals that cannot be achieved through the efforts of individual laboratories. This award aims to support a small multi-disciplinary team of 2 or more co-principal investigators (Co-PIs) who propose an innovative, early-stage research project.

Who is Eligible: Any BARI member  

Deadline: 

Funding: Up to $150,000 in direct costs (salary support and expenses) for 1 year with possibility of extension (NCE at 6-month intervals). 

How to Apply: 

  • 3-page proposal describing a new, collaborative project involving multiple BARI Investigators. Page limit includes references; figures can extend to additional pages.
  • 1-page statement describing synergy between Co-PIs; priority will be given to new collaborations
  • Current biosketch for each Co-PI
  • If relevant, description of BARI-related resources necessary to support the success of the research project
  • Estimated Budget for Year 1

Other Requirements 

  • Regular attendance at monthly group meetings (last Tuesday of the month)
  • Attendance/presentation at BARI annual faculty retreat
  • Attendance/presentation at the Bay Area Aging Meetings
  • Progress report detailing how funds were used and how they will be leveraged to acquire additional funding
  • Citation of BARI support in any resultant publications
